A whetstone is a water-lubricated sharpening stone, the traditional method for maintaining a fine kitchen or knife edge without the heat buildup a powered sharpener can cause. Our whetstones come in multiple grits so you can move from repairing a dull or chipped edge to a final polish on the same knife.

Frequently Asked Questions

Soak the stone in water for about 10-15 minutes, then draw the blade across it at a consistent angle in one direction per stroke, alternating sides evenly. Work from a coarser grit (around 400-600) to reset the edge, then move to a finer grit (1000 and above) to polish it.

A 1000-grit whetstone is the standard all-purpose choice for routine knife maintenance. Go coarser (around 400-600 grit) only if the edge is chipped or very dull, and finish on a higher grit (2000+) if you want a polished, razor edge.
